The Light @ Clevedon Pier 09/08/2018 A couple of weeks ago I had the pleasure of walking on Clevedon Pier; a beautiful confection of iron and steel that juts out into the Severn Estuary. Originally built as a platform for boarding paddle steamers in 1869, it now acts as a destination for pleasure seekers and diners, and is a wonderful place to walk, chat, drink tea and watch the sun go down. This was not my first visit to Clevedon with a camera. I actually went there a year ago to watch the sunset, after enjoying a meal in a

A Carnival Of Animals - Exeter's Fun In The Sun 04/23/2018 Last Saturday Rougemont Gardens in Exeter was alive with music and the sounds of hundreds of adults and children enjoying themselves in the sunshine. The carnival of Animals had arrived, and everyone was there to enjoy the spectacle, and celebrate the 150 th anniversary of the opening of RAMM (Exeter's museum). Throughout the day the crowds were entertained by street performers and fantastic animal puppets, and I captured the event with my Fuji cameras. I consider myself lucky to have been

An Architectural Walk Through Bristol 03/09/2018 Bristol has some amazing buildings, I know, because I walked past some of them during a shopping trip last month. Luckily I was carrying my Fuji X-T10 with 18-55 lens and my XE1 with 90mm lens, and so managed to pause and photograph them on my way to the shops. The sun was shining, the sky was blue and all was well with the World. I just had to capture the images quickly before my wife Rachael disappeared into the distance, knowing that the longer I took over my composition, the faster I would

On the Banks of the Danube 01/26/2018 Budapest has been called the Jewel of Eastern Europe, and after visiting it I know why. Two years ago my wife and I were lucky enough to join our two youngest daughters on their planned four day break to Hungary. I remember discussing it in the sunshine as we all sat on a bench in Clifton, overlooking the bridge. Fast forward a couple of months, and I was crossing the Danube on another suspension bridge, this one credited as being the first permanent bridge toogether the two cities of Buda with

At Bristol Harbour 01/19/2018 I love Bristol harbour. It is the perfect blend of old and new, merging the past with the present. The beautiful industrial buildings of our maritime heritage have been repurposed, and are now places where people gather to meet and eat. The magnificent cranes and steam railway that line the dock remind us that this was once a thriving port, linking Bristol to the rest of the World. It is still a busy place to walk, but the goods have been traded for sightseers and locals, and the noise of the

Visiting Lyme Regis - Going back to the Jurassic Coast 11/05/2017 The ancient town of Lyme Regis nestles midway between Dorchester and Exeter on the South coast of England. Anyone who has visited it will appreciate its nickname of 'The Pearl of Dorset'. From its spectacular position in Lyme Bay you can look out across the sea to the Jurassic cliffs in the east, or the large beach and majestic harbour (The Cobb) to the west. Indeed people from around the world will be familiar with the famous Lyme Regis Cobb, because it was used as a dramatic setting for the

Taunton Flower Show 2017 - Floral Fun In Vivary Park 08/09/2017 Taunton Flower Show dates back to 1866, and it is thought to be the oldest in Britain. Every year, in early August, the beautiful Vivary Park in Taunton is transformed into a show ground, to celebrate flowers, produce and the summer. I have been attending the flower show for only a few of these 150 years, but in my time I have taken hundreds of pictures. Last Saturday Rachael and I visited the show with my daughter Abbey and her boyfriend Darren. We spent a lovely day in the sunshine (and

Meet Zeb (Or How To Photograph An Eight Month Old Baby) 08/02/2017 A new baby in the family is the perfect excuse for getting out the camera. In fact it was thirty years ago that I first got into photography, when my daughter Holly was born (and the camera has been out ever since!). So I was delighted when my sister announced the birth of baby Zeb eight months ago. She lives with her partner in Brighton, and last week Rachael, Bailey and I went to visit them. We took our caravan and spent an enjoyable (but rather wet) few days in Littlehampton, commuting to
